To support young musicians, the Grossmünster remains closed on Tuesdays during organ lessons at the «Zürcher Hochschule der Künste».

Admission entitles you to visit the Karlsturm and to a discount of CHF 5.– on the admission to the collection at Kunsthaus Zürich (CHF 11.– instead of CHF 16.–).

Cloister (Kreuzgang)
Immerse yourself in an oasis of peace and contemplation: visit the garden with ornamental plants of cultural history in the centre of the late 12th century cloister and ponder about the meaning of whimsical figures, animal scenes and grimaces.

Grossmünster Shop
At the back of the church, you'll find a carefully curated and unique selection of items. In particular, products featuring the Polke and Giacometti window motifs are available exclusively at the sales stand.
The tower (Karlsturm)
A stunning view over the city and the lake all the way to the nearby alps: the Grossmünster Tour of the App «Altstadtkirchen Zürich» accompanies you on the 187 steps from the nave up to the viewing platform on the Karlsturm.

Please note
- Tickets can be purchased at the information desk in the church, no reservation is needed
- Earlier or temporary closures possible due to church events or bad weather.
- On Tuesday, the tower is not accessible for groups and school classes because of pipe organ lessons
- No lift available (187 steps).
- As only a limited number of people can stay on the tower, we cannot guarantee the ascent to the tower.
- You can also experience street art with Naegeli's Dance of Death sprayings.
Crypt
The crypt is the oldest part of the Grossmünster. It features 14th- and 15th-century murals depicting the martyrdom of the patron saints Felix and Regula. The original seated statue of Charlemagne from the south tower is also housed there.
- The crypt has the same opening hours as the church and is usually open to the public.
- To protect the historically valuable murals, the crypt is closed to visitors on rainy days.
- Admission is free.
Chapel of the Twelve Apostles (Zwölfboten-Kapelle)
The Chapel of the Twelve Apostles features frescoes and a model of the original cathedral.

Local Church Guides
Our free short tours, lasting 10 to 15 minutes, are usually led by volunteers from Friday through Sunday. Tours are available only when guides are on site. The current topics and time slots are continuously announced on signs in front of and inside the Grossmünster.

Access by car is permitted between 5 am and 12 pm, but parking is only available with a permit.

FAQ
The admission to the Grossmünster is free of charge for quiet contemplation as well as visits.
To climb the tower and visit the bible collection, you need to pay an admission fee of CHF 5.–.
Students (with student ID), «KulturLegi» holders, pensioners and children/adolescents (6–16 years) only pay CHF 2.–.
Admission is free of charge for younger children (0–5 years).
Payments possible in cash, with credit card or with twint.
Please show respect towards the church and abstain from loud conversations.
Eating and drinking inside the church is prohibited.
You are allowed to take photos for private use only. No flash or tripod is allowed. Please abstain from taking photographs during church service. The windows by Polke (stone) are protected by copyright. Please restrain from excessively taking selfies or private photo sessions.
Taking photos with a tripod or for professional, journalistic or commercial use is prohibited.
No, large suitcases, backpacks, trolleys etc may not be taken into the church. Trolleys or strollers may not be deposited in the entrance. Walking aids or wheelchairs are allowed.
The ground floor is accessible with wheelchairs. Unfortunately, the gallery, the choir, the tower and the crypt are not accessible yet. Wheelchair access to the gallery and a disability-friendly toilet will be realised during renovations.
We provide an audio induction loop system for people using hearing devices, as well as additional hearing aids. There is also the App «Altstadtkirchen Zürich», which features a tour of the Grossmünster in German, English and Spanish, complete with text and images. Download it via Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS); it can also be accessed on site via the free Wi-Fi.
Animals may not enter the church. An exception is made for service animals.
A few printed flyers and leaflets are available in English and French. The App «Altstadtkirchen Zürich» contains tours in English and Spanish. Download it from Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS); on site possible via the free Wi-Fi. In the church, the audio tour is only available with headphones. Headphones can be purchased from the shop in the church. All tours are also available as text to read. We also offer various private tours in English.
Please visit the «Sigristenbüro» (sexton's office) in the choir on the left towards the back during the church's opening hours or write us a message.
External guides with school classes and groups (5 to max. 30 people) can visit the church without registration. All important information about group visits can be found here.
Adults accompanying minors are responsible for said minors. Drawing and writing is only allowed with (colour) pencils on a solid pad. Sitting on the ground (incl. stairs) is prohibited.
