Group Visits
External guides are welcome to lead their group through the Fraumünster and Grossmünster using their own whisper technology. Guides require accreditation for group visits with explanations in the Fraumünster. However, group visits are also possible without a guide. We recommend that you check the current opening times of the Fraumünster and Grossmünster well in advance of your planned visit. We cannot guarantee a visit if there are large numbers of visitors.

Do I have to or can I register my planned group visit?
Group visits cannot be booked in advance. Come along with your group during opening hours. There may be waiting times if there are large numbers of visitors. We recommend that you check the current opening hours of the Fraumünster and Grossmünster well in advance of your planned visit. Good to know: The Karlsturm is not open to groups on Tuesdays.
How much does a group visit with own guide cost?
Groups pay CHF 4 per person at the Fraumünster, including a short brochure in various languages. Payment in cash, by credit card or Twint at the reception desk in the church.
In the Grossmünster, the nave can be visited free of charge. A visit to the Karlsturm costs CHF 4 per person (incl. short brochure). Payment in cash, by Twint or credit card at the reception desk in the church.
How big is a group?
You can visit the church rooms with groups of 5 to a maximum of 30 people at a time. You can climb the Karlsturm with a maximum of 20 people. If a group exceeds the maximum permitted number, the group must be divided into several smaller groups.
How does the tour work?
If an external guide leads the group, the tour must be conducted for groups of 11 or more using the whispering technology (audio system) brought along by the guide with devices for all participants, so that the other visitors are not disturbed. At the Fraumünster and Grossmünster, you can also use the App «Altstadtkirchen Zürich». Download it via Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS); on site possible via the free Wi-Fi. The tours can only be listened to with headphones (available to buy from the church shop if required). All tours are also available as text to read. Groups visiting the Grossmünster are asked to use the exit towards the Limmat after their visit.
Who may guide a group visit?
At Fraumünster, only accredited guides can give groups a tour through the church. To gain accreditation, a guide must visit a half-day course organised by the Reformierte Kirche Zürich (church district one). Currently, such accreditation is only provided in German.
Accreditation as a Fraumünster guide
Currently, accreditation seminars are held in German only. You can register by e-mail for an accreditation course. The next ourse takes place on Monday, March 1st, 2027 in the afternoon. The course takes 2–3 hours. Upon completion, you will receive your personal accreditation permit required to guide groups through the Fraumünster.
