Renovation 2013
Reconnection to the Münsterhof
With the 2013 renovation, the historic north portal once again became a major entrance and exit. This reopened the Fraumünster more fully to the Münsterhof, with which the church had been closely connected for centuries.
Urban Development
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, bridge construction, new traffic routes, the demolition of monastery buildings, and the construction of the City Hall had significantly altered the relationship between the church and the square. The redesign of the Münsterhof in 2014–15 built on this: Today, the square is once again quieter, more pedestrian-oriented, and can be experienced as the forecourt of the Fraumünster.
