Foundation Painting

Around 1300, a large mural hung above the burial site of the first abbesses, Hildegard and Berta. It depicted the legendary founding of the Fraumünster as well as the transfer of the relics of Felix and Regula. In 1847, the painting—which had been whitewashed over—was rediscovered and copied as a watercolor; the original was later largely lost. Following the interior renovation in 2006, the historical watercolor copy was enlarged and installed above its original location.
